(This was originally its own post, but I'm making it a followup to Chris's so we don't have multiple threads.)
Has anyone seen a rather largish thread? We seem to be missing one! Last seen early morning 12 Aug 1999 in this conference.
I realize that this is a joyous moment for some of you, but the thing was gonna be finished off today.

Chill out. Listen to Amanda Marshall. Listen to the Rolling Stones. Give yourself some intellectual exercise, and try to work out the connection between them.
And BTW, this post is on-topic, since Ms. Marshall is from Canada, and we all know about Canadian batteries, right? :)

All:
Do to the nature of the thread, it started causing problems with the software and we were forced to delete it. (Which I had to do, one message at a time...) Some of you may have noticed this when trying to click on the thread late last night and this morning and the results of doing so.
I will kindly ask that people refrain from messages of this type in the future, to avoid possible problems down the road. My apologies to all those of you who contributed so diligently to the thread.
Thanks for your cooperation in this matter.

That's what I kind of figured. Brian, would you be so kind as to let us know the final number of messages, whether or not it reached the edge? I'm assuming the "problems" you're referring to include a hideous slowdown of this specific conference.
Also, if anyone saved any part of the thread, I would be interested in piecing it together to find out how many messages in all were posted, from "No Topic" until deletion.

Tom:
I was going to try and save the thread, but it crashed whenever you clicked on it. I had to go in through a "back way" and delete the messages. Final count was 243, although there were more messages that had scrolled off previously. Make it somewhere in the neighborhood of 270 or so.

Hmmm, Interesting numbers Brian. I saved [don't know why, but I just had a feeling that something was going to happen] a copy [399 KB] of the thread last night at 10:30pm Eastern Time and there were only 158 messages in it. That means that some of you guys must have been quite busy posting an awful lot of messages very late last night. Unfortunately I did not save anything previous to that, so I don't have copies of what has scrolled off the board in the past couple of weeks.

Sorry to hear that, Dave, but it shall live on in our memories. And we'll have that theme park in Seattle, or Oregon, or wherever. =)
Oh, and make sure you read my reply to Brian's message. You must've posted just after I clicked "Reply".

Thanks, Brian. We're hoping Dave had the rest of the thread saved so we can piece it together and find the exact total count. If the final count was at 243, I can guarantee you the grand total was well over 300. Let it be known throughout the land that Portable Forum reigns supreme!
When I first mentioned the right side, I had no idea that anything like this would come of it. I'd like to thank Dave and Sergei for taking it and running; Chris, Nils, and Gil for their regular (and amusing) posts; Brian for telling us all that we're insane; and everyone else who posted to the thread.
And hey, we had some fun and learned something along the way. ;) We now know what happens when you get all the way over to the side--the thread crashes and Brian it one message at a time. =P

For the record, Dave Hendriks (of Desktops forum fame) posted no less than 35 messages on the thread late last night. Why? I have no idea. These "Desktop" people are stranger than strange.

Chris and I have a theory--he wanted to be the one who reached the side and steal the glory for Desktop Forum.
And Dave--after seeing some of those Desktop .sigs, I promise I'll never rag on you for yours ever again, or at least for a week or so! Java applets... sheesh!
Tom, whose .sig will be a VRML tour of his house. =P

Actually, Brian hit the nail on the head as to my reasoning for posting something like 35 messages early this am.
I don't know why either!
I did mention something about notebook people being way too serious and sig file haters to boot, which was why I don't spend much time over here, even though I happen to have a I3500.
So, when I discovered, thanks to Cris Riley, that the thread existed, I knew that I had to help...
Adios!

I sent in my computer for servicing Monday, didn't get it back until Friday (with every component replaced except what I sent it in for!)---
SO, I missed the grand finale on the thread from hell, and can only read enviously about the carnage! Just who posted the most messages in a single session???? I think they started thinking of deleting it when I used the "H" word...

I believe that honor goes to David Hendricks, with 35. Recognition should also be given to Brian, who had to delete the whole thing one message at a time when it crashed--he had the fewest posts, with -230. =)
